DCHCA is a Countywide Civic Association Not a bunch of NIMBY's (Not In My Backyard) !
It is really all about opportunity. As citizens of a rural county, close to a large metropolitan area, we have the opportunity to participate in the local planning process. By working with our elected officials in promoting sound development choices we help shape our own future. As a member of DCHCA you are an important part of an active group of residents
who are working together to preserve and improve the quality of life in our changing County.
DCHOA is a non-partisan advocate for the questions and
concerns raised by our membership and provides a vehicle for individuals
and groups to address these concerns with elected or appointed county
officials to achieve positive benefits for our entire community.
We do
not support or endorse any political candidates, but we will publish
factual information related to the political and governmental process,
particularly as it affects or impinges on our quality of life,
economically, environmentally, and socially. We also partner with other
civic and charitable organizations working together in our community for
our mutual benefit. Here are some basic examples of how we are all impacted by poor development decisions: - Development that costs the county more to deliver services than the development generates in tax revenue places existing homeowners with additional tax burden
- Poorly designed residential and commercial development creates negative impacts for surrounding communities
- Lack of funding for additional capital improvement components such as roads, bridges and expanded water/sewer capacity place strains on existing facilities, impact quality of life for existing homeowners and adds to the tax burden
- Attempts to create and push through legislation allowing a juristdiction to implement funding mechanisms to raise development capital that benefits a few stakeholders but is detriment of the rest of our community
- Steady erosion of our scenic landscape produces a "paradise lost" scenario that is never retrievable
By belonging to and actively participating in DCHCA, our neighborhoods have a stronger voice as issues surface. You often hear "government is run by those who show up". We want to make certain that homeowners who show up are represented as stakeholders during the economic and legislative decision-making affecting Dawson County. Our Board of Commissioner's stated commitment of "Dawson County - Where Quality of Life Matters" will take more than just the 5 of them to bring to fruition! With all stakeholders working together to make better development choices we will have more to offer than most of our neighboring counties. DCHCA has a strong commitment to working with these local leaders, their appointed boards, committees and County staff to achieve a safe, scenic, sustainable future in our neighborhoods and in the North Georgia region. We recognize that Dawson County is changing and will continue to change simply because where we call home is a "great place to live" and others are recognizing this! HELP US GROW OUR VOICE AS DAWSON COUNTY GROWS
